Sever's Disease

چکیده
In one prospective study of injuries among players aged 9-19 years in football academies, 2% of overall football injuries were due to Sever's disease; the peak for incidence was in the under-11 age group. [4] Aetiology The line of ossification in the calcaneal apophysis is thought to develop microfractures due to recurrent stresses on the heel, combined with the growth spurt of puberty. As in similar conditions (eg, Osgood-Schlatter disease), it is believed to be caused by decreased resistance to shear stress at the bone-growth plate interface.

Sever's disease complicated with osteomyelitis.
Sever's disease is juvenile osteochondrosis of calcaneus, manifested with posterior heel pain and mild swelling, usually in young athletes, caused by repetitive microtrauma. The standard diagnostic procedures include radiographs and ultrasound examination. It is a self-limiting condition, usually treated conservatively. We present a case of Sever's disease complicated with calcaneal osteomyelit...
متن کاملHeel raises versus prefabricated orthoses in the treatment of posterior heel pain associated with calcaneal apophysitis (Sever's disease): study protocol for a randomised controlled trial
BACKGROUND Posterior Heel pain can present in children of 8 to 14 years, associated with or clinically diagnosed as Sever's disease, or calcaneal apophysitis. Presently, there are no comparative randomised studies evaluating treatment options for posterior heel pain in children with the clinical diagnosis of calcaneal apophysitis or Sever's disease. This study seeks to compare the clinical effi...
متن کاملSever's disease: what does the literature really tell us?
BACKGROUND Sever's disease is typical of many musculoskeletal conditions where observational annotations have slowly been accepted as fact with the passing of years. Acceptance of these nontested observations means that health professionals seeking information on this condition access very low-level evidence, mainly being respectable opinion or poorly conducted retrospective case series. METH...
متن کاملUltrasonography of the calcaneus in Sever's disease.
Severs disease (calcaneal apophysitis) is a self-limiting condition seen in physically active children. Although there is controversy about the radiographic appearance, some reports propose the importance of fragmentation of the secondary nucleus in the diagnosis of Severs disease. We studied secondary nucleus of the calcaneus with ultrasonography. Twenty-one symptomatic heels of 14 children we...
